Sunday, I preached on leaving the past behind. I know this is an issue everyone has to confront. Here is a quick recap: 3 biblical metaphors that describe the dangers of dwelling on the past: Putting your hand to the plow and looking back causes you to make a mess of the present and the future. This morning, Pastor Frank preached on this passage, talking about our need for personal cleansing. As I was reflecting on this story, I realized we often try to cleanse ourselves the wrong way, as Naaman wanted to do, and complain there is no change in our lives. Naaman was from the kingdom of Syria, or Aram. [...] Would it bother you if you knew you were breaking Christ’s heart? Well it bothers me, because I am. I simply don’t care about you as much as I should. In fact, I’m often guilty of putting myself ahead of others, of caring more for my things than yours….than God’s. Which led me on a hunt to find out just HOW God works in us “to will and to do” for His good pleasure.
