The Incarnation: What Christmas Means to Me

Since it’s Christmas Day, I thought I’d share a couple personal thoughts on what Christmas means to me….

1. Christmas is NOT Easter. It annoys me when people trivialize Christmas just because it doesn’t include a murder. What’s up with that?

2. Christmas is a time to focus on the incarnation and all it means.

So what does it mean? The incarnation is something you don’t hear a lot of people talking about these days, even at Christmas time. For me, it is just as important a miracle as the cross, or the resurrection. Why?

  • It brings a transcendent God down to a level that I can relate to Him on.
  • It means He can relate to my temptations.
  • It means He understands my pain.
  • It means He knows what it means to suffer.
  • It proves that life CAN be lived the way God intended, even with all these limitations, IF we walk in the Spirit, as He did.

Without the incarnation, the cross and the resurrection would be meaningless. Instead, he shared our human frailty, took our punishment, and overcame it all! Tell me, what other religion can make such a claim??

Please, tell your children these things, and help them understand that’s it’s more than “a baby was born.” Tell them He knows how they feel when they’re tempted to do wrong. Tell them he knows what it feels like to scrape a knee, or to see someone you love suffer. Tell them about the incarnation. Tell them He didn’t just die for them. He lived for them.

Merry Christmas!!!!
