Mormon Missionary Calendar

Apparently, this project had its first edition in 2008, but the guy that started it was excommunicated from the Mormon Church and even had his diploma from Brigham Young University revoked.  The response was so great, however, that he’s publishing a second edition on his own.

According to Chad Hardy’s website,  “Mormons Exposed,”

these hunky men of faith are now on a new mission to powerfully tear down stereotypes and promote religious and cultural tolerance around the world.

Here’s a picture of the back of the calendar:

They plan to give the money to charity, but it’s easy to understand why he was disciplined. Interesting that he was attempting to “tear down stereotypes.” He may have done that, but at what cost?

The Christian Church (I’m not referring to mormons now) should always be asking the question, “am I relevant?” But we must be careful to temper it  with another:  “Am I pleasing God?” It’s not always easy to find the balance in a culture at odds with our worldview. In our efforts to be relevant, let’s not compromise our values or our example. Like us or not, the people around us NEED us to be an authentic expression of what Christ stands for.
