With E.A. Lovell's Christmas Raffle Committee. TOP ROW: Pastor Frank, Monique Essegern (Vice-Principal), Me, Lynn Merriman (Principal) and Darlene Woodward. BOTTOM ROW: David Rabjohn, Maureen Cook, Monica McClure and Yolanda Van Groote.
Earlier this week, we got to drop off a collection we’ve been taking up for the students of E.A. Lovell school. Adult students make up the population, finishing off or upgrading high school, so they can move forward with their lives.
Monica (front row in red) had called me just a couple weeks ago to ask if we could help. Each Christmas, they gather food, supplies, gifts, toys, etc. and put baskets together for a raffle for the students. 30-60 families typically receive a basket.
Lucien Caron built this box for me, and Ruth Wilson & my wife gift-wrapped it. Didn’t they do a great job? Thanks to all the wonderful folks at OCC who really pulled together to make this happen. I was so proud of our guys for giving so much on such short notice!
Yesterday, I received this email from Monica:
Les: We were overwhelmed by your generosity today and we are all very excited about our wrapping party this afternoon! Thank you from the bottom of my heart, and please thank the members of Oshawa Community Church for their generous support of our Christmas raffle. Blessings to all! Monica.
It was really fun watching the looks on the students’ faces and hearing their expressions of surprise as 6 of us carried the “present” out of the van and rolled it down the lonnnggg hallway during their lunch hour. Ha, this thing must have weighed about 300 lbs!

Ha ha, thanks pastor!
[...] This Christmas we are partnering with a food bank we support. We asked them for a list of 100 needy families, and with their help, we are providing a turkey, a Bible, a Jesus movie DVD & microwave popcorn for a movie night. We were also called upon by a downtown Secondary School for Adults to provide food, supplies and gifts to make Christmas hampers for their school population. You can read about that here/a>. [...]
